STEP BY STEP DEMO INTRODUCTION

Over the years Carole and I attended many print shows for Millpond Press. Millpond would fly us to different galleries around the country and I would sign posters and get a chance to meet the collectors who were buying my prints. We did a tour across Canada one year and got a chance to see the country and meet a lot of nice people.

One of the things that many people would say was “I don’t know anything about art BUT I REALLY LIKE YOUR PAINTINGS” At first it seemed like the only people that liked my paintings were people who didn’t know anything about art. Then I realized what they were saying was that my paintings touched them emotionally. When an artist can touch someone emotionally, he’s bringing you into his world.

I want my paintings to be aesthetically beautiful with a strong central effect, to have order, to be well designed and composed with contrast, harmony and balance of color, value and intensity

I like to tell a story while trying to keep the story understated. Also it’s important to me to leave something to the viewer’s imagination. In this way the viewer becomes a participant!

Years ago an artist friend of mine, John Pitre, said that meaningful and valuable art come straight from the heart not from technical abilities. I’ve never forgotten that. Technical abilities are of great importance though. Good drawing and painting skills and an understanding of design and composition are vital.
